States of Matter
This list includes only the four main states of matter:
- Solid: Atoms are packed together and cannot move aside from vibrating. Solids have definite shape and definite volume.
- Liquid: Atoms are fairly close together but can move freely. Liquids have definite volume and take the shape of their container.
- Gas: Atoms are detached from each other and fly around rapidly. Gases have no definite volume or shape.
- Plasma: Atoms are detached from each other and nuclei of atoms are detached from electrons. Plasma can conduct electricity.
